Returning the Favor

Despite only eight percent of people going through with their New Year’s resolutions, junior Haylee Snowden is determined to go through with her resolution to give back to her community. Over the years, Snowden has been given a lot from her community and decided 2018 is the year to return the favor.

“I thought about what I wanted to change this year, and I decided helping my community is a good start,” she said.

Some of Snowden’s closest friends have been very supportive of her decision, and are willing to help her follow through with her New Year’s resolution.

“I think it’s really impressive what Haylee is wanting to do this year,” junior Nicolas Fuentes said.  “Hopefully others see her as a source of inspiration and follow in her footsteps.”

Although Snowden hasn’t been living here for long, she feels like she’s already connected to her city, and is grateful for how much she benefits each day.

“I’ve been living in Garland for about a year. I love it here,” Snowden said. “Everyone I’ve encountered has been good to me.”

Snowden plans to volunteer more in her neighborhood and be more involved with the things going on around her. She hopes to keep Garland as neighborly as it was when she arrived for anyone else that visits.

“Overall my goal throughout 2018 is to improve the city in any way I can,” Snowden said. “Even the smallest of jobs help out in a big way.”
