Senior Rites of Passage

Senior year is full of moments that you will remember forever. They happen all throughout the year so you never get bored. One of the first “rite of passages” is painting your senior parking spot. Not everyone paints one but for those who do, it’s a big deal.

“It was so exhilarating to be able to leave your mark on the school,” senior Summer Johnson said.
While the designs had to be approved, after that, seniors could paint whatever they wanted.

“I got to incorporate the best parts of me into my parking spot,” senior Hannah Hewitt said. “I’m a dancer and in theatre so I got to include the musical ‘Chicago’ into my spot. It really represented my favorite things. I’m definitely proud of it.”

Despite the joy that came from the final product, the seniors weren’t always this happy.

“I almost gave up so many times; I just wanted to throw the towel in and go home,” Johnson said. “Looking back now though, I’m glad I didn’t. I love my spot. All the sweat, tears, and money were worth it.”

Painting your parking spot isn’t always as planned out as you might hope. It is very costly. Johnson and Hewitt spent over $200 on paint and supplies.

“I had just gotten paid and all my money went out the window now I park all over a two weeks wage,” Johnson said.

The Class of 2018 wants to offer the underclassmen advice on what to bring and what to do for when they paint their spots.

“Have a tent, bring lots of water, and just have fun,” Hewitt said.

The day was almost perfect, but some things could’ve been better.

If you are interested in seeing the designs, feel free to walk through the student parking lot.
