As you took your first steps through the double doors of Lakeview Centennial on August 28, you may have noticed some changes. That is because starting last school year and all summer long construction was taking place to add some new additions to our school.

When construction started last year, there were some doubts as to what exactly they were doing. The partially closed off hallways, overcrowded band hall, and what was supposed to be parking were now turned into storage for construction equipment. These conditions were aggravating to many students.

“It used to be so annoying trying to catch my bus after max duty last year,” senior Iyanna Thompson said. “We were forced to all walk through this small gate opening with so many people bumping and pushing you. I’m so glad they fixed that this year because I almost missed the bus a couple of times.”

However, those imperfections are a thing of the past. Lakeview has undergone an extreme home makeover, starting with the band hall. If you remember before there was only one main entrance to the band hall and it was pretty small for the amount of equipment and students. Now if you enter through the doors from the student parking lot, there is a new “band hallway” with a set of newly built restrooms and an entrance to the band hall itself. They have added several practice rooms, offices, storage closets, dressing rooms, and playing areas. The door to the old band hall is now used for storing uniforms.

They have also added what will soon be a new security checkpoint in the commons. This new building will make students, parents, and other visitors entering and leaving our school safer and more efficient. It includes a desk and offices inside, along with the front entrances into the auditorium and the main gym.

Other few minor upgrades have been added, such as the wooden doors and mirrors in every restroom. Construction should be completed by the end of this school year.
