Join a Club or Organization!

It’s told to students all across the country and perhaps even all over the world: “Get involved at school!”  Joining a club or organization is a vital part of your high school years and is something that can help your college application stand out from the countless of others that are sent in. But it’s not just about college; joining a club can expose you to people you would have never met and introduce you to lifelong friends. It may seem dull, but joining a club or organization can change your entire high school experience.

So what clubs should you join then? Well, Lakeview has over a dozen different types of clubs and organizations that you can take part in. Whether it’s a branch of the fine art programs we have at school (art, theatre, dance etc.) like Step Team and Art Club, or cultural associations like the American Asian Association and Multicultural Club, there are a variety of clubs to choose from.

Below are just a few clubs/organizations and their information that might interest the average student:

Louder Than A Bomb (LTAB): Sponsored by Jason Carney

Louder Than A Bomb is a poetry organization where students who have an interest in poetry can come together, create, and perform. During meetings, LTAB students are given a poet and a poem to study their method and symbolism. Towards the end of the meeting the students are given a prompt from the teacher and are told to write a poem based on that specific prompt.

LTAB isn’t all about learning and writing though. During the academic year there are “slam-offs” where students can perform their poetry in front of an audience. There are even times where students get the chance to go outside of school and perform about what may be going on in our society or perform their own pieces.

Louder Than A Bomb will begin in late September. Meetings will be the first A day of every week during all lunches. Be sure to contact Mr. Carney at his email address for further information if needed: [email protected]

The Health Occupations Students Association (HOSA): Sponsored by Wendy Jackson, Lauren Jones, and Pamela Bortters

HOSA is an organization created for students with an interest in the health and medical fields. Students are taught vital skills like CPR and are given the opportunity to participate in both outside and inside school activities. Along with their participation, students are given the opportunities to further develop their leadership skills and become socially engaged in their community.

For further information on HOSA and how you can join the organization contact the following teachers at their email addresses: [email protected]  [email protected]
