The Science Club and Lab Management team have a unique opportunity every month to volunteer at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science during school. While there, they curate exhibits and enlighten museum guests about the wonderful world of science.

These bright students are hand-selected by David Downing, sponsor to the Science Club and adviser to the Lab Managers.

“It’s so fun volunteering at the Perot,” junior lab manager Maricela Ramirez said. “You learn so much more about the types of exhibits whenever you have to teach someone else and it really opens up your world.”

Although it’s not easy to talk to strangers about difficult concepts, these students put forth the effort and really step outside of their comfort zones.

“When I first started, I usually hung around in the back and didn’t talk much,” junior lab manager Cecille Lopez said. “It’s gets easier and you get more comfortable with it as you come more and more.”

Some of these student volunteers have really racked up those hours and use these as resume-fillers and, sometimes, bragging rights over their fellow lab managers.

“I’ve got almost 60 hours and it gets competitive with the newbies likes me and Cecille and Tim,” Ramirez said.

These students just wrapped up their volunteering for a March and won’t be returning until late April.
