NBC Saves “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” After Only 31 Hours

Earlier last week, Fox announced that it was dropping its popular show, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” after only five seasons.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” has quickly grown as one of Fox’s most popular sitcoms, with fans claiming it to be better than classics such as “Friends,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “The Big Bang Theory” – which was recently renewed for a 14th season.

“Ultimately we decided we just didn’t have room for it and were trying,” Dana Walden, Chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group said to The Independent’s U.S. Edition. “We’re really happy it’s found a new home.”

After word got out that Fox was cancelling the show, stars of the show Andy Samberg (Jake Peralta), Melissa Fumero (Amy Santiago) and Chelsea Peretti (Gina Linetti) took to social media to desperately attempt to save the show.

“‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ has given us fully human characters, beautiful, powerful, flawed, vulnerable, majestic,” renowned director Guillermo del Toro said on Twitter. “In whichever form, ‘B99’ must return. It will. And I will be there to watch. And, it is my hope that I hope that, this time, a lot more people do too.”

Posts about “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” could be seen across Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and other sites trying to persuade broadcast giants like Fox, NBC, Hulu (who already offer the show) and Netflix to pick up the show and continue broadcasting it.

“I need @Netflix/@AmazonVideo to step in & give #BrooklynNineNine & #LastManOnEarth more life,” American percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, DJ, music journalist, record producer, and occasional actor Questlove said on Twitter.

After much of this, NBC announced they were going to save “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” one day after Fox dropped it. NBC will begin showing it at the beginning of the sixth season, due to release in the fall. Fans and the cast alike rejoiced on social media, glad that the show would continue.

“#Brooklyn99 IS COMING BACK FOR SEASON 6 YOU GUYS ON NBC!!!!! You did this!! You got loud and you were heard and you saved our show!! Thank you!! Thank you to NBC!! NINE NINE!!!!!” Fumero said on Twitter.
