Kanye West’s Twitter Rant Confuses Fans

Long-time popular rapper Kanye West has recently become more and more active on his Twitter account and has been using it to express his political opinions – many of which are controversial to his fanbase.

West had previously announced his support for Donald Trump at his San Jose concert following the 2016 presidential election. This immediately sparked controversy and distaste in the mouths of attendees. A video that was taken by a fan shows the audience’s discomfort in the form of booing and shouting.

“I told y’all I didn’t vote, right?” West said according politico.com. “But if I would’ve voted, I would’ve voted for Trump.”

Last week, he tweeted about his unconditional love Trump, regardless of any difference in opinion the two may have, which renewed the controversy surrounding him.

“You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him,” he said in a tweet. “He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does.”

West then followed up with a photo of him wearing a “Make America Great Again” (Trump’s campaign slogan) hat, and informed his followers that it was signed by the president himself.

“I honestly still respect his past when it relates to music, and I will still listen to his music and possibly upcoming music,” senior Kayla Lipscomb said. “But as a person, I don’t respect his opinions.”

Although some of his supporters have chosen to leave his defense because of his support for Trump, many believe that it is important to still appreciate West’s music and talent.

“While I think some of the things he has said recently are ridiculous and irresponsible, you can’t deny his talent,” senior Benjamin Scott said. “You have to be able to separate the artist and their art.”
