South Carolina Prison Riot Results in Seven Dead and 17 Injured

On April 15, there was a gang related fight at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, South Carolina. The eight hour long fight emerged into fatal riot that resulted in seven deaths and over a dozen inmate injuries.

The riot started out with one fight that occurred in a dorm room, and then a second fight broke out, and then another. The fights started at around 7:15 p.m. and ended at 3:00 a.m.. The officers in the correctional facility called out for help to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The scrutiny on the lives lost are still being looked over. The officers who were on duty when the murders transpired are also being investigated.
