In-N-Out sets the New Standard

Most fast food places pay $7.25 to $8.50 per hour, but that doesn’t include In-N-Out whose starting pay is $11.00 an hour. High school students have a lot of expenses, from gas to lunch money to saving up for college. Working four hours only three days a week, and getting paid a little bit (if that) above minimum wage isn’t sufficient enough to cover everything a high school student may need.

“I’m saving up for college,” senior Brandon Lee said. “I love getting paid above minimum wage, who wouldn’t?”

At In-N-Out, they signify their job positions by levels. All levels will be getting a dollar raise, and the starting pay for new hires will be $12.00 per hour starting next month.

“Working at In-N-Out has been a great experience,” Lee said. “Not only because of the pay, but because I’ve learned how to keep myself busy. I’ve learned to work at a fast pace, and [how] to work well with those around me.”

Quality, friendliness, and cleanliness are the three main priorities at In-N-Out. None of their food has been frozen; their potatoes are washed, soaked, finely chopped, and fried when needed, and their meat is kept in a cooler, not a freezer.

“The burgers have such good taste,” senior Jose Portillo said. “They have rich ingredients that make the burger really stand out.”

Making customers have the best experience is In-N-Out’s first priority. Being able to run through every burger, and handing them out with a nice warm smile is what makes them who they are.

“In-N-Out burger [has] very good service,” Portillo said. “I love how quick they take orders, and how they always try getting them out quickly with a friendly smile.”
