Eagles Secure Their First Super Bowl Win

On February 4, the Super Bowl had all of America’s attention, as is every year. The Philadelphia Eagles with a record of 13-3 and the New England Patriots, with a record of 13-3, battled for the Lombardi Trophy and a Super Bowl ring.

While the Eagles looked for their first ring for their franchise, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots looked for their sixth Super Bowl win. Along the way, both teams came close to loss during the 2017-2018 NFL Playoffs, but they managed to keep their heads up despite the adversity they faced and didn’t quit fighting until the clock struck zero.

During the playoffs, the Eagles defeated the Atlanta Falcons (who played in in the 2016-2017 Super Bowl) by a score of 15-10

The next week, the Eagles defeated the red hot Minnesota Vikings, who were coming off of the shocking ‘Minneapolis Miracle’ play. The Eagles would blow Minnesota out of the water with the score of 38-7. That win guaranteed them a spot in the Super Bowl.

Unlike the Eagles, the Patriots are in the playoffs and in the Super Bowl almost regularly. So, to football fans, it was no surprise that they would be able to go to the Super Bowl once again.

But before that, the Patriots had to fight off some talented teams to get where they wanted to go. They had to defeat the Tennessee Titans and won with a score of 35-14.

The Patriots would also defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars, with a terrifying defense, by four points in a score of 24-20.

In the end, both teams had to face the bad and the good along the way, whether it was blowing out opposing teams or a fair share of close, hard games.

In the Super Bowl, the Eagles entered as the underdogs, while the Patriots were almost destined to win. Yet, it didn’t happen quite that way.

The Eagles were led by backup quarterback Nick Foles, who replaced the injured Carson Wentz. They went down the field against the Patriots defense almost with ease, leading to field goals and multiple touchdowns.

With the Patriots playing from behind, Tom Brady was able get the ball down the field with his superstar tight end, Rob Gronkowski, his wide receiver, Danny Amendola, and his full back, Rex Burkhead. Yet, the New England Patriots couldn’t generate enough points to knock off the Eagles, due to all of their field goal kicks, rather than touchdowns.

Tom Brady had the opportunity to come back and save the day, such as in last year’s Super Bowl against the Falcons, yet a sack fumble by defensive end, Brandon Graham, that would be recovered by another defensive end, Derek Barnett, would seal the deal for the Eagles.

Tom Brady would have one final chance to win the big game with a small amount of time on the clock left. He completed some passes, before launching a Hail Mary, which would not be caught by anyone, and the clock would run out, signaling a Super Bowl win for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles stunned the New England Patriots with a win and a score of 41-33. Some watchers are happy that Philadelphia hoisted the Lombardi Trophy.

“All I have to say about the Super Bowl is: fly Eagles fly. Eagles for life,” junior Cymore Richardson said.
