Cold Front in North Texas Leaves Students Chattering

Throughout the winter break, the weather dropped to below freezing in Texas. This severe cold front lasted throughout the returning week from break with temperatures dropping to 28 degrees Fahrenheit.

Some students, like freshman Pedro Carrillo, say that they enjoy the cold weather.

“It’s never this cold here,” Carrillo said. “You have to enjoy it while it lasts because it’s [going to] be nothing but heat for the rest of the year.”

Other students, like sophomore Louis Rodriguez, say that their preference of weather changes throughout the seasons.

“Whenever it’s summer, I’m always wishing that it was winter,” Rodriguez said. “But when it’s winter, I’m wishing that it was summer. I know it sounds weird.”

The cold weather in the beginning of last week raised concerns among parents resulting in them deciding not to send their kids to school.

“My mom didn’t let me come to school on the first day [from winter break] back cause she said it was too cold,” sophomore Marina Rubealcaba said.

The temperature last weekend dropped to below freezing again and extended into this week. With a slight chance of rain, students hoped the freeze would leave roads inoperative.

“I hope it rains, so we won’t have to come to school,” sophomore Saul Castillo said. “That’d be awesome.”

However, Garland ISD started school without delay on Tuesday.
