John Legend Gains EGOT status

Actor and singer John Legend made history this year at the Emmy Awards Ceremony. After winning the Emmy for his role in “Jesus Christ Superstar Live,” he joined other artists that have gained the EGOT awards.
“EGOT” stands for the four biggest awards in the entertainment industry: the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and the Tony. Legend became the first African American and is the youngest in the industry to obtain this status.
He has won 10 Grammys, an Oscar for best original song, a co-producing Tony for “Jitney” 2017 and now the Emmy.
Legend has forever engraved his name into entertainment history by showing that it doesn’t matter where you come from, what the pigment of your skin is, how old you are, or how long it takes to achieve something. He has proven that all it takes is drive and passion for you to accomplish the impossible.
Senior Parker Lynas isn’t acquainted with John Legend’s career, but recognizes the significance of this moment.
“It’s a colossal accomplishment worth praise,” Lynas said. “Furthermore, the historical significance of such an event marks a transition to a more inclusive industry that promotes talents of previously forgotten groups and creates an environment in which everyone can contribute to the arts.”
