The Scene Behind The Team
When you hear football, you probably think of the quarterback or homecoming. But what people hardly ever think of is what goes on above the field.
In order for college scouts to view the players highlights, someone has to record them and that’s what the managers do.
“Making sure you catch every play so that the team can properly prepare for the next opponent by scouting and seeing their mistakes on film,” Management Director Francois Auguston said.
The football team relies on the film being perfect for those reasons. The coaches have weekly film meetings to go over the film and try and correct the mistakes.
“You have make sure that you capture every play. You can’t afford to start late and miss any of the action,” freshman Trevor Scott said.
While the job can be stressful with so many people counting on you, it has it’s perks.
“It took a P.E. credit so I didn’t have to take gym,” Scott said. “and just going to the football games, especially the varsity ones, for free. I could go as a spectator, but there’s just something different about being behind the scenes, being able to watch how everything works.”
Mr. Auguston was originally a business teacher. He was at first only in charge of the websites but he was asked to direct the film. He had a few students that were there the year before to show him the ropes
“Being at the game with the film crew…watching the game with the crew is always fun. It’s my favorite part,” Auguston said.
There will potentially be spots open for next season. If you are interested please contact Mr. Auguston or Alyssa Johnson for more information.
“Join film crew! It’s a great opportunity to do awesome stuff and have fun at football games. Plus, you can act like you’re in football even though you’re just the camera person,” Scott said.
