Lady Patriot Basketball Makes History
For the first time in the history of the school, the Lakeview Centennial girls varsity basketball team clinched the district title with their win over Wylie and ended their regular season undefeated in the district. Their 20-6 regular season (14-0 in district) was capped off with a 64-30 win over Rowlett on Friday, February.
Led by junior Carly Gates and senior Alexis Gie, the Lady Patriots were a handful for all schools in GISD this season. With an average margin of victory being 45.5 points, there was not much competition for the team all season. They were lucky to avoid any COVID-19 setbacks which have plagued the school’s athletics all season, with football forfeiting their playoff spot due to an outbreak and boys basketball having multiple quarantines throughout their season.
The Lady Patriots lost to Skyline High School in their first playoff game.
Despite how the playoffs turned out, being the first female team to bring an undefeated season and district championship to Lakeview is an achievement that cements their legacy at the school forever.
