“On My Block” Leaves Audiences Craving More
Netflix has been on a role recently releasing quality original movies and shows, targeting teen audiences. Their new series “On My Block” is no exception. This coming of age story follows the lives of four best friends, Monsae (Sierra Capri), Ruby (Jason Genao), Jamal (Brett Gray), and Caesar (Diego Tinico) living in South Central Los Angeles. The shows features real topics teenagers can relate to such as romance, drugs/gang violence, and a lot of drama.
What’s unique about this Netflix series is the cast features several different minorities, such as African American, Hispanic and Afro-Latino. You are introduced to characters with diverse ethnicities and backgrounds – which is refreshing to see in mainstream media.
Unfortunately the series is only ten episodes long, and when you get to the final episode, you’ll be left with wanting more. Not only that, but the huge cliffhanger at the end will leave you emotionally distraught. Viewers of the show have posted videos of them crying on social media after finishing the show. Netflix hasn’t revealed if “On My Block” will come out with a season two, but everyone who has seen the show can probably agree there needs to be not just a season two, but many more.
