Changes to the Football Season
As the 2020 Texas high school football season approaches, so do many questions as to how everything is going to be run due to COVID-19. Many smaller schools were allowed to start their season on time, but Garland was forced to make many adjustments to their schooling and sporting schedules.
The Lakeview football schedule originally consisted of 10 season games with a bye week for the entire district. Now the district has changed the season to eight games with a scrimmage, with the first game of the season against Irving MacArthur. The first district game is no longer against Sachse; it’s now against Wylie. Dates for games are subject to change due to the number of COVID cases being reported.
In the case the season needs to be cut short, the district has been divided into two zones with each zone consisting of four teams. Zone A contains Lakeview, Naaman Forest, Wylie and South Garland; Zone B is Garland, North Garland, Rowlett and Sachse. The district will hold games between the teams within their respective zones, meaning Zone A plays Zone A and Zone B plays Zone B. If the season is cut short due to the pandemic, the best team from each zone will play against each other at a later date to determine a district champion and the two number two seeds will play for playoff seeding.
