Black History Month Celebration Warms Students’ Hearts
`The room was full of cheers and claps as students and teachers came together celebrating achievements by African Americans. It was a time of representation.
On February 22 during fourth period, students came together to see the Black History Month performance, consisting of dances, singing, and acting.
“The acts were original and good, even though most of it wasn’t a history related act, I still really like it,” sophomore Shelby Lockley said.
The first act was a song sang by students titled “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The crowd later erupted in cheers.
“The song had a great melody, and I just couldn’t help but stand up and clap,” Lockley said.
The second act consisted of biology teacher Adrienne Scott reading a poem about Black History Month.
“It was a good poem, it was written in a way that I related – I mean that’s what black history is about – representation,” junior Chiamaka Iheme said.
Followed by other acts such as dancing, miming, and singing, everyone came together to celebrate.
