SAT Boot Camp Coaches Students for the SAT
The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is an assessment that students take to evaluate their college readiness. GISD has partnered with Princeton Review to provide 60 Lakeview students with free SAT sessions to help improve their scores on the exam.
“The job of the student is to always do the best they can,” English teacher Mark Lee said. “[The] boot camp teaches a way to college success and beyond.”
Lee, along with math teacher Brian Mazur, will be the mentors for the boot camp. They will provide the attendees with strategies for the SAT.
“SAT is a gauge of what the student has attained: what they know, not what they don’t know,” Lee said. “There are no points off for wrong answers. In this sense, it remains a revolutionary evaluative tool.”
The sessions started January 16 and will end February 28. On Tuesdays, they will be in room 1136 with Lee. Wednesday sessions will be held in room 1237 with Mazur.
“Come and engage,” Lee said. “Though the roster is full, some may have some limited space, as there are those who signed [up], but have yet to attend.”
There are also post-tests which are Saturday, February 17 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at South Garland, or Wednesday, February 21 2:45 – 6:45 p.m. at Lakeview, so that the students who attended all sessions can view their improvements, and what they need to work on.
This is my third year on staff, and my second year as editor-in-chief. I love to cook, and I love writing!
