CIA Gifts to Mexico
With Christmas just up ahead, the Christ In Action (CIA) here at Lakeview decided to put together gift boxes for families in Mexico who are in need. The packages were made in an annual workshop that CIA hosted on Wednesday, November 29.
The club has been working with the Regalos De Amor organization to help distribute the presents. Regalos De Amor is an organization located in Nuevo Laredo that ministers families in Mexico.
“I’ve been partnering with the Regalos De Amor program to help make this happen,” youth pastor Jeremy Cooper said. “Together we help spread the word of God to families living in Mexico.”
The packages that the students created ranged from items such as nail polish to kids toys, or even clothes. Each package also included a letter and a bible for the person receiving the package.
“We included the letter to remind the person that God loves them,” sophomore Maira Cruz said.
The CIA program hopes that by doing this, they will help spread the word of God and provide a sense of hope to underprivileged families living in Mexico.
“The gospel inspired me to give back to the less fortunate,” Cooper said. “We want to shed a light of hope in their lives.”
The presents will be distributed by Regalos de Amor and some members of the church two weeks from now in a large charity event that the organization will host with an expected 200-300 people attending.
“Every year we go down there and we hold a really big event and minister to the kids and families living there,” Cooper said. “There, we hand out the boxes to the kids and give a little prayer.”
