Sirens keep Dallas awake
On April 8, 2017, the city of Dallas received a wakeup call 18 minutes before midnight. This was a city wide hack of 156 tornado sirens that went off repeatedly for about 90 minutes.
Many residents in Dallas were afraid.
“We had people asking if we were being attacked because of what’s going on overseas,” a city spokeswoman said the next day in an article from the Washington Post.
According to the same article, others cracked jokes on twitter, including one user who posted “Go home dallas, you’re drunk” #sirens #dfw — Garrett S. Bacak.
The Washington Post reported that according to officials, someone had been physically at the hub that connected all the sirens together. The sirens were turned off and will be turned on at a later date. Officials have yet to find out who was behind the hack and why.
The sirens were heard in Garland, Plano, Rowlett and other parts of Dallas.
“The sirens went on for like an hour and a half it woke me up from my beauty sleep!” senior Ronnie Hernandez said.
Students weren’t kept awake just by the sirens.
“My dog wouldn’t stop howling,” junior Edwards Moore said. “I swear the entire neighborhood had a choir of dogs.”
Dallas will be on high alert for any signs of hack or any other suspicious acts.
