NMSI Pep Rally
Hopefully, every student in an AP or APDC class knows that Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses can be more than just a college course you take in high school. It could potentially be a bank.
Passing an AP exam with a 3, 4, or 5 could get you $100 for each one on select AP exams. This is done by NMSI, the National Math Science Initiative is a national organization that awards money for students who take Advanced Placement courses and pass with a high score.
This money can be used for college in the form of textbooks, go towards tuition, or any other necessity needed for a first year. Or of course, it can be used for personal needs/wants like makeup or food.
“It makes me feel like they deserve that reward from their hard effort,” AP Biology teacher Jodie Like said. “It makes me proud to know that they can take that money and invest it in their education. For like, books for the first year of college.”
A large range of AP tests are available for students to take at Lakeview. From AP Chemistry to AP Language and Composition, an AP test exists for the strong point of every student.
“I don’t think the AP tests are hard, but they are challenging,” APDC English Language teacher Elise Song said. “I think the students should be okay with passing them though.”
Students from all grades have the capability to earn money. Many juniors and seniors are looking forward to taking a good amount of AP tests this year in an attempt to earn money from NMSI.
“I want to take the APUSH, AP Spanish, AP Psychology, and AP Human Geography exams,” junior Karina Dacpano said. “I’m not sure if I’ll pass them, but it would be great if I did. If I’m smart, I’ll spend my money on college funds.”
