Last Friday, the Lakeview Centennial step team, Synergy, competed in the 11th Annual Youth Health Awareness Step Competition. They won second place in the boys/coed division and the trophy for Greatest Step Complexity.
Synergy achieved this with only five steppers, with all but one who has previously stepped competitively.
“I haven’t stepped before, but what made me join was watching them at the pep rallies and seeing how much fun it looked,” junior Alexis Chester said.
Leading up to the competition in Carrollton, Synergy felt no sense of nervousness and were more than ready to compete in front of the judges.
“We were able to do so well because of all our hard work, dedication, and long practices,” Chester said.
Synergy was the underdog in the competition because how small their team is.
“It felt great when we won because nobody thought we were would win anything,” sophomore Legend Hill said.
