Be Thankful, Not Just on Thanksgiving

This year at Thanksgiving tables across America, folks will sit down with their family and ask themselves the time-honored question: “What am I thankful for this year?” So many people only focus on eating turkeys, going on vacation, and being thankful one time of the year. And that’s not the way we should view thanksgiving; as a holiday where your relative cooks a meal that took them a full day to create and only 10 minutes to eat. It should be a day to reflect and continue to be thankful year round.

We don’t realize that we have so much compared to other people and we are blessed. We need to spread the love and gratefulness around. Thanksgiving is a time when Americans are supposed to reflect on what they are thankful for, because being thankful is an important part of life year round.

“I’m thankful for everything,” Anatomy and Physiology teacher Mrs. Cervone said. “Like thanksgiving is not just a one day thing. I’m thankful for everything, everyday, to God. My students, like really, I am really thankful for my students this year. For my job, that I have food, that I have shelter, that I have my little dogs. Everything.”

People become too self inclined and lose sight of the bigger picture; of the good things. We never seem to be satisfied with what we have or even grateful in the moment and just be content.

”Sometimes I think about wars, like World War Two and how everything was just…we are really lucky,” Cervone said. “We just need to be thankful for every single thing that is good in our life, or bad because God can take bad things and turn them into good things too. I just feel like I am super blessed.”

Gratitude helps connect us to something larger than ourselves, whether it’s to other people, nature, or a higher power. And that’s something to be truly thankful for, every day of our lives, not just Thanksgiving Day.

“I don’t think we should just think of thanksgiving as just a DAY to be thankful, but we need to be thankful for everything,” Cervone said.
