Royal blue shirts, LC fan signs, students and teachers filled Lakeview’s side of the Plano East stands on Tuesday February 23, during the first playoff game of 2010, against Lake Highlands High School.
The game literally had people at the edge of their seats, trying to prepare themselves for what was going to happen next. Most of the game was extremely close. Lake Highland’s immediately took the lead with a score of 23-18, the first quarter. This brought some worries to the cheering crowd.
“I didn’t know what was going to happen. All I knew is that they had played too hard all year to lose now. They really deserved this,” senior Silkia McNeal said.
Patriots finally took the lead at the end of the second quarter, 36-32. The crowd began to regain their confidence.
“I honestly thought they were going to lose, because I felt like in the beginning they weren’t trying their best. But they proved me wrong,” senior Careita Miller said.
Patriots continued their lead throughout the third quarter, 64-51.
“The beginning of the third quarter looked like the other district games. They were leading by twenty-two. But the other team still had some fight in them, and came all the way back. What helped our boys win wasn’t their offence but their defense,” Mr. Jolivette said.
The Patriots finished off a difficult game with a score of 84-82. Which made them the Bi-District Champions. As the crowd ran from the bleachers to congratulate the players on their victory, they boys were presented with a golden trophy. As they held up the trophy the crowd took pictures of them smiling and holding up their number one sign.
