“Like OMG like my boyfriend is like so like hot, and he’s like so sweet, and cuddles me like all the time, and blah blah blah, blah!” Do you ever notice that when you’re single more people have the urge to talk to you about their relationships? They brag to you about every disturbing, boring, and intimate detail that happens. Ew, that’s unnecessary information I could’ve lived my life without knowing!

But if you want to add to the torture of listening to you “brag” about your relationships, make sure you ask stupid questions. For example, “Oh my gosh, I just saw Bobby kissing another girl, what should I do?” Then of course I would say, “If he cheated on you, you should probably break up with him.”

Oh, and here’s the twist, I really don’t care about your relationship when I can’t even get into a relationship of my own. I mostly ask about your relationship to be nice, and partially my own personal agenda, but mostly to be nice. Although sad to say but very true, is that every time you start a conversation about your relationship, I’m secretly dreaming about a red hand print across your cheek and me slowly walking away.

So remember this next time you come to me for relationship advice.

Then, I had to scrape up $150 to pay off my car insurance.

Afterwards, I looked at the money I had left, and to my amazement, there was nothing. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Now I know the true feeling of being poor. I think it’s time to find another job.

Imagine sitting at your lunch table after standing in the long lines in the cafeteria, now imagine someone taking half of your food.

Next, think about studying for several hours the night before to prepare for a test, which, to your friend, is a free pass to copy.

Then you’re in the parking lot, and that same friend begs you to take them home, not even offering to pay for gas. Even think about all the times you’ve loaned out clothes or money, that you’ve never gotten back.

This is what I call a leech!

They feed off your resources, never giving compensation back.

How about next time I push you out of my car or shove my food in your face, that’s my compensation!

Get your own life and leave mine alone, you leech!

Please explain the thought process going through a person’s mind, as their traveling down a hallway. I mean, how hard is it to walk less than 2 mph in six minutes to your next class and sit down?

I swear, if I didn’t have the fear that someone would turn around and beat me in the face, I would constantly be yelling, “GET OUT MY WAY,” while shoving through the crowd.

Some people find it necessary to halt in the middle of the hall, stopping the flow of human traffic, in order to talk to their herd of friends.

When their stopping and conversing with their flock of peers in the middle of the main hallway and still get on time to class, and I have to march my butt down to the tardy center because of their selfishness, that’s a problem. I’m going to make a petition to have stop lights placed in the school hallways, because apparently teenagers aren’t smart enough to figure how to get through them.

In addition, to flocks of patriots in the hall, it really irks me when I can feel you rubbing up against me intending to hurry me up. Um, “Excuse You,” I’m trying to get to Miss B’s class just as fast as you! The sad part about it is, this dude was probably the same one clogging up the 1300 hall two minutes ago.

So, keep your ten fingers, toes, and your new pair of Converse to yourself, because the hallway is already like prison and you’re not making it any better.

I swear the teachers are out to get us this year. Whether it’s homework, tests, or quizzes, these teachers are grading us as if we have targets on our backs. Now you’ re asking,”Adam, how do you know they’re out to get us?” Well the answer is quite simple, all your teachers “decide” to torture us with an infinite amount of homework at the same “freaking” time.

In addition to written homework, they then give you a boat load of stuff to study in preparation of a giant test coming up, that consequently decides whether you pass or fail. It’s only the first six weeks, and I’m already on the brim of pulling my hair out.

My social life is going down the toilet, just so I can taste the possibility of passing with a 70. “Go for the A, if you try hard enough you can pass.” Sike! They make darn near impossible; meanwhile my GPA suffers for it.

I wish I could say it gets better from here, but I’d only be lying to protect your feelings, your hopes, and dreams.

If I go down, I’m taking you three, the three actually read this post, with me!

by Sonia Trevino

Due to Texas law, schools aren’t allowed to provide sex education to students unless it’s under certain terms. The law states that the board of trustees of the district is allowed to determine if sex education will be taught with the input of the local health education advisory council. If it is taught then it must follow certain guidelines, some of which are, devoting attention to abstinence than any other behavior and promoting abstinence as the only sure way to stay free of pregnancy, STDs, and HIV.

Sex education should be taught in schools because it ensures accurate information, it gives students the opportunity to learn and ask questions that parents dismiss, and makes teenagers more aware of the risks of sex.

Being taught about sex education is important in general. But being taught accurately is also a big factor. People automatically assume a child will be taught accurately if taught at all. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, statistics are constantly changing. It was reported in 2003 that there were 8,491 cases of HIV and AIDS reported on the border of Texas. Only a couple years later in 2007-2008 the same area had 14,562 cases of HIV and AIDS. As generations of teenagers become more promiscuous, infections become more likely.

Another reason schools should teach sex education is because some parents won’t. Either they won’t teach it because of religious reasons, or the parent is simply too embarrassed to discuss sex or contraceptives with their kids. Instead they dismiss the subject by using the quick solution of staying abstinent until marriage. Despite the reasons the child is still left uneducated and open to making more mistakes.

While some teenagers have been taught by parents, they may not realize the reality of the risks. Teen pregnancy and STDs seem surreal to most people. The common thought of “that won’t happen to me” keeps teens in a naïve, imaginary world. What teens don’t know is that there is an average of 40,000 to 80,000 new cases of HIV discovered each year in the U.S. It’s now estimated that half of all the newly discovered strands of HIV are among people younger than 25.For Texas in particular 2004 statistics found that 24% of the states’ teen births weren’t the girl’s first delivery. It was also reported in 2005 that Texas was the fourth highest in teen pregnancy rates. There were now 88 pregnancies for every 1,000 girls ages 15 to 19.

If teens see just how often these ricks occur could be a well-deserved wake up call. Telling students that contraceptives don’t always work, showing how many teen moms there are now, or how many teens now have an STD could get some of their attention. For girls in particular reaching toward the emotional factor of sex could give them a better understanding of the importance of waiting for their special someone.

Still the debate continues with issues such as the material being taught. Some parents or teachers may consider things like masturbation or contraceptives inappropriate. What age, the amount of detail, and sexual behavior are heated topics of debate. With no agreements and limited compromise no action is being taken in favor of the students.

What people refuse to see is even if they don’t teach it, it will still happen. Students will have sex and get pregnant. If people really want teen pregnancy and STD rates to go down, teach sex education.

Two main programs for sex ed are comprehensive sexuality education and abstinence-only-until-marriage program. Comprehensive sexuality education covers the broad, general topics of sex including safe sex, STDs, contraceptives, masturbation, and body image. However parents may think this type of sex ed is too in depth or detailed. Abstinence-only-until-marriage would be a good substitute. This program starts in kindergarten going all the way through high school. Emphasizing staying abstinence until marriage, this program doesn’t usually include in depth details of sexual behavior.

Sex education is very important for schools to teach. Either because of accurate information, giving students someone to ask questions to, or making the risks more real for teens this is an issue that shouldn’t be put off any longer. The more time goes by the more teens are getting pregnant or transmitting an STD through uneducated and unprotected sex.

by Ashley Tarver

Teen pregnancy is on the rise and with that dropout rates, especially among girls, have risen as well. Many dropout because they can’t afford or have a means for daycare and miss so many days taking care of their little one(s). They can’t handle the stress of school and a young infant and opt to dropout. The school sits back and does nothing because they have no special program to help, but should they?

School, particularly high schools, should be housed with a day care for children of teen mothers in school. The public school daycare will give teen mothers the opportunity to finish their education, take away some of the mother’s stress, and give them a better way to care for their child.

With the aid of the day care, teen moms and pregnant teens will be able to get more knowledge of taking care of their kid. They can get hands on experience and know who and where their child is.

There’d be no need of stressing unless it’s over homework.

Areas with higher teen pregnancy rates, dropouts are common. Many people argue that teenage dropouts are resulted from a number of economic and social problems in the community. Teenage dropouts and teen parents are more likely to become unemployed or work for lower paying jobs without the right help. The community must come together and help the youth out, by having public daycares. Dropping out of school will be a thing of the past. They can stay in school and get a great education to get a good job so they can better themselves and their child.

Many people believe that having public school daycare programs will encourage teens to be more sexual. Schools should provide students with the right information and education to prevent the aftermath. They also can provide abstinence and safe sex programs to their students. With the schools giving a few students a condom, it can prevent some of the many pregnancies going on now.

Schools should provide all types of sex education programs to young teens in high school. When in an unfortunate predicament, they should have the daycare for teen mothers to bring their infant/toddler children. Then young mothers won’t have to dropout, can finish getting a good education, and have a better life with their family.
